UAE decides to adopt Metric system of measurement

The UAE has established a national committee to streamline the move to metric system of measurement, and this has reflected itself in all official and business transactions in the country, particularly in the real estate sector.

Although, a new date to implement the new standards officially is yet to be announced, the metric system is one of the most commonly used world-wide, except in Burma, Liberia and United States.

In majority of the cases, the two systems have co-existed, and measurements in feet and gallons have bee in use in daily life, while the Metric system was used only for scientific usage.

According to Craig Plump, the Head of Research for Middle East Office of real estate consultants Jones Lang LaSalle, unifying the system into metric measures would prove helpful.

Although it won’t have a dramatic impact, it will help in clarification. For instance, the prices are listed in terms of per square feet in Dubai, while in Abu Dhabi it is per square meter.

The major impact of UAE going Metric will be felt in the real estate market, as it would unify the systems of measurements and make it easier for customers to compare prices.
