No residence visa renewal for defaulting expatriates

The residency departments will not renew the residence visas of expats if they required by the police for any final obligations, announced officials at the Interior Ministry.

The Residency visas of expatriates, their relatives and employees will be renewed only after settlement of financial disputes, if any.

The visa renewal applications of several residents were rejected, as banks had lodged complaints against them with the police, who issued arrest warrants.

The residency departments have been instructed by the police to either arrest such expats who violate laws, or send them to concerned authorities.

However, the officials have agreed to consider few cases on humanitarian grounds.

The Assistant Undersecretary in the Ministry of Interior for Naturalization, Residency and Borders, Maj. Gen. Nasser al Awadi Al Menhali, said that in case banks file a case with police against a person for financial issues, such as delayed payments of loans or bounced cheques, an arrest warrant is out, and no transaction will be done for that person.
