Dubai devises new urban development plan
A new urban development plan for Dubai will be ready in six months.
The government has set up an Infrastructure Committee from various departments and an external consultant has been appointed for completing the mission. Another team has now been appointed to conduct a statistical survey of existing projects.
The Director General of Dubai Municipality, Hussain Nasser Lootah has ordered the formation of working group for the survey. The committee, headed by Najib Mohammed Saleh, Head of Planning Research at the Planning Department, Dubai Municipality, has been entrusted the task of providing data to consultant to complete review of the current projects.
The masterplan is hoped to do a balancing act by aligning the long-term vision of Dubai with current market trends and needs of developers. Depending on these recommendations, there will be guidelines on how and where new projects should come up in Dubai, Saleh said.
Several projects in Dubai had to be either scrapped or re-designed due to the impact of global financial meltdown. Therefore, planning based on actual estimate of population and economic situation could be the best way forward. Guidelines based on planning will decide where development should take place in Dubai, he said.
The survey panel constitutes senior officials from Strategic Planning Department, Roads and Transport Authority, Dubai Statistics Centre, Population and Social Statistics Department, Planning Department at Dubai Water and Electricity Authority.
