Abu Dhabi set to fast-track ID card application processing
The residents of Abu Dhabi have been invited to fast-track their ID card applications by making an appointment to register for the compulsory cards, a senior member of the government said.
The government is embarking on a new attempt on an appointment-based registration system, which involves the typing centers in the city, so as to minimize the time taken to register for the cards.
The pre-registration process has been transferred to few typing centers in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Al Ain, which has led to reduced time for registration from the earlier 30 minutes to less than 10 minutes at present, said Dr. Ali Al Khoury, Vice Chairman of Higher Management Committee, EIDA (Emirates Identity Authority).
He also revealed that 20 typing centers have already been certified in Abu Dhabi, with more likely to be certified shortly, so that the pre-registration process gets quicker.
Dubai’s Al Barsha and the Hyatt Regency centres were taking part in the pre-registration trial.
When the new system is implemented all over the country, the registration capacity of the centres would grow from 7000 to 20,000 per day, Al Khoury said. Under the new ID card system, the applicants will be served only on appointment basis.
