Dubai tops GCC nations for quality lifestyle

Dubai has once again been voted as the best place in the GCC for quality lifestyle, according to a new survey report.

The City remained on top slot in Mercers 2010 Quality of Living Worldwide City Rankings’, which was released yesterday.

Abu Dhabi followed Dubai in the GCC rankings. Vienna topped the list, while Baghdad was in the last place. Muscat was in the 100th position, followed by Doha at 110th, Manama at 111th, Kuwait City at 122nd and Riyadh at 158th positions.

In the Middle East and African sub-continent, Dubai remained ahead of cities like Cape Town and Mauritius, when it came to quality of living.

Bassam Gazal, the Head of Survey practice across Middle East at Mercer, said that both Dubai and Abu Dhabi governments have invested time and money to improve quality of living in both cities, and the result is the product of their hard work.

Mercer’s listing covers a total of 221 cities and is conducted to help governments and multinational firms compensate the employees fairly while placing them on international assignments. The rankings are based on a point-scoring index, which sees cities ranked against New York as the base city with a score of 100.
