Emiratis eligible for 10-year multiple entry visa to US
Responding to the demand by the UAE Government that Emiratis should receive the same treatment offered to citizens of 34 countries, including European Union Countries and US citizens who obtain visa on arrival at the UAE ports, the US Ambassador to the UAE, Richard Olson said that the Visa Waiver Program (VWP) member countries are usually approved by the US Congress and is unlikely that a member will be added. Instead, Emiratis are eligible for a ten year multiple entry visa to the US, as a new online visa regime has been introduced at the US embassy in Abu Dhabi.
He said that the United States is committed to secure borders but open doors.
Explaining this fact, he said “We are committed to being open to the world in our trade and commerce and in cultural, intellectual and citizen exchange. But, we are also equally committed in ensuring safety of all those who travel to the US and to the citizens.”
The Abu Dhabi US Consul Sean Cooper said that to be admitted to the VWP, a country should meet several security and other requirements such as enhanced law enforcement and security-related data sharing with the US.
The VWP members are also required to maintain high counter-terrorism, law enforcement, border control and document security standards.
The visa regime enables nationals of 36 participating nations to travel to US for tourism or business for 90 days or lesser without obtaining a visa.
Olson revealed that the new online application system helps ensure that visa paper work is completed by the time an applicant arrived at the embassy or consulate, and even the waiting time for an appointment for interviews have also been reduced.
