Dubai Municipality unveils first Pond Park at Al Barsha

Dubai is likely to offer about 162 hectares of fresh green area with date palms and variety of trees and flowers, ready for public use, from this week, as the first Pond Park in Al Barsha was unveiled by the Dubai Municipality.

The opening ceremony was held under the patronage of Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council, Shaikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai Shaikh Maktoum bin Mohammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and other senior officials of the civic body and UAE Municipalities Federation.


Being the first of eight parks to be opened by the Public Parks and Horticulture Department of Dubai Municipality in several areas of Dubai during the week, the Pond Park is worth Dh.22million and is the first of its kind in the region, with 33 percent of the park being water area.


The 5.25hectares space in the park has cycling and jogging tracks, apart from volleyball and basketball courts and football fields. The facilities in the park will also include boating and floating restaurants, and two fully-equipped gymnasiums for men and women, confirmed Abdul Karim, Director of Public Parks, Horticulture Department at Dubai Municipality.


Four of the parks are to be inaugurated this week are pond parks, the first-of-its-kind public parks, implemented by Dubai Municipality. The other pond parks will be at Al Nahda, Al Quoz and Al Qusais-3.


Two of the pond parks at Al Quoz and Al Nahda will be inaugurated on Monday. Two other parks Al Qusais-3 Pond Park and New Garhoud Park will be inaugurated on Tuesday.
