Iris Scan technology curbs more than 235,000 illegal entries into UAE.


The Iris Scan technology introduced in 2002 has since stopped about 235,000 illegal entries into the UAE, revealed the UAE police yesterday.


The highly-successful technology helped in securing the entry and border points of UAE, said Maj. Gen. Ahmad Nasser Al Raisi, the Director General of Abu Dhabi Police Central Operations.


Studies are underway to capture the image of the iris from a distance, in order to make the system applicable at the passport counters of various entry points.


Before implementation of the iris scan, a foreigner expelled from the UAE could go back to his country, change his name, obtain a new passport and return back to the country. To prevent such misuses, iris prints were developed as they are unique to each individual and helps in identifying such cases in real time.


Maj. Gen. Al Raisi said that Iris Scan is currently used at several ports across the UAE. It has achieved amazing results with its high efficiency in preventing deported people of various nationalities, who attempted to enter UAE, forging their passports and obtaining new work visas.


This year, atleast 26 new iris scan stations will be set up in Abu Dhabi, Al Raisi said.
