Abu Dhabi launches e-library system for the first time

The UAE Capital, for the first time, has introduced e-library, wherein books and CDs could be borrowed on the internet.

The future libraries in Abu Dhabi are likely to feature 24-hour self-service facilities with vending machines stocked with books, DVDs and CDs, allowing people to borrow and return them any time of the day or night.



There will also be Playstations, Xbox consoles for teenagers to play video games, and lifestyle zones wherein visitors get to relax and listen to audio book or CD.



The Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (Adach), meanwhile, is modernizing the library service with the introduction of book vending machines.



The 20th edition of Abu Dhabi International Book Fair launched yesterday, displayed the “future library”, which, according to Adach is a new concept leading to a new generation in libraries.



The new libraries will use cutting-edge technologies and gadgets, CDs, DVDs and books, all of which will be available in vending machines, using radio frequency identification technology.



The Director of National Library, Juma’a al Qubaisi, said that the new system will draw attention of all in Abu Dhabi and UAE. A range of materials will be available to people using the library, including computer games, e-bookds, periodicals and audio books.
